Cabinet card of actress Anne Deland. Identified mount verso in period hand along with Sarony's logo. Ann Deland was an actress from Georgia. Her stage debut was in Newark, New Jersey, in 1857, as Desdemona in 'Othello.' Deland worked for Laura Keene for two seasons and then moved on to Wood's Theatre in Cincinnati and De Bar's Theatre in New Orleans. In 1860 she retired from the stage but returned in 1868 co-starring with Edwin Forrest at Niblo's Garden in New York, playing Hecate, Regan, and others. Deland went on to play star roles in New York. The actress appears here in a pose that was favored by nineteenth-century actresses, with a lace shawl thrown over her head and shoulders.
