CALIFORN-I-A OR BUST! Here is a superior ambrotype of a '49er - all packed and ready to go - heading from the Midwest to the great state of California. His suitcase is in his hand and his heavy duffel is placed on the table next to him. The man's cheeks are tinted a soft rosy red. With notes etched into the rear of metal back behind the image indicating his name as James, a reference to Cincinnati and the year 1860 - still in the prime of the California Gold Rush, which begain in 1849. Beautiful clear, bright image in a split case.
