Born December, 1913 she went on to win gold medal in 100m backstroke at 1932 Olympics. She was thrown off '36 U.S. team for drinking champagne in public and shooting craps on boat to Germany. After she quit swimming, Holm played Jane opposite fellow Olympian Glenn Morris in the 1938 film Tarzan's Revenge. She enjoyed a short film career after that appearance. After her divorce from Art Jarrett (who she appears in this image with), she married impresario Billy Rose. At the 1939 New York World's Fair she did 39 shows a week at Rose's 'Aquacade', co-featured with Tarzan-swimmers Johnny Weissmuller and then Buster Crabbe. Later known as Eleanor Holm Whalen (after her third husband), she died of kidney failure in Miami, at age 90. 6-1/2 x 8-1/2 news photo with caption attached; circa 1933.
